It was basically like, "Look, we'd rather fight on your side, but we don't break our promises." The Oneida were the only Iroquois nation not sent to a reservation later on, so Matt tells me. Why? Because they were the one nation of that confederacy that sided with us, and in fact had taken food to Valley Forge for Washington and his troops. That Washington turned around and butchered allies of the Oneida in such a way is shocking to say the least. I don't doubt it, I'm just really sad to find this out. I had thought better of him.
