The heat wave is causing disruptions to the kind of life we have been accustomed to in the “progress” of the 20th Century, enabled by the one century blip of oil, a blip of comfort and speed that will not be repeated. It isn’t just the heat. It is also the accompanying wind, fires, and the ironic floods from torrential rains like never before. Will we recognize that we need each other in bioregionally-based simple living arrangements, cooperating and sharing. This is an evolutionary moment for radical epistemological shifts – from a knowledge based on separation from and superiority to nature, to one of re-integration with nature as being intrinsically part of it. Nature bats last, and if we think we are separate from her, we are just fooling ourselves into oblivion, i.e., extinction, or near so.
