There is no need to be afraid of death. It is not the end of the physical body that should worry us. Rather, our concern must be to live while we’re alive – to release our inner selves from the spiritual death that comes with living behind a façade designed to conform to external definitions of who and what we are.

Hi Brian,
I enjoyed reading your book, Blood on the tracks. I heard you speaking on WBAI one morning a year or so back on the Democracy Now program with Amy Goodman and this encouraged me to read your book.
I lived most of my life in Staten Island and was a little dis heartened to read about your failed attempts at trying to live a life as a rural farmer. I too tried 20 years ago moving to rural Rennsalaer County New york and failed at a small farm with a day job as a computer programmer working in Troy.
I did not go to Vietnam because I won in the draft lottery. I have a cousin who died there and a few others who are still mentally effected by their experience.
My Slovak grandfather escaped the Austrian military draft by immigrating here you to say in translation,” Old Country Soldier this country bum”.
Your analysis of things is right on and I enjoy your blog too.
Keep the faith,
ray
